The Double Challenge

The Experiment: Find a penny, and find a way to double it. Then keep on doubling until I have enough money to pay off my mortgage.

Ode to Edo

Hey, that's a palendrome! Well, my favorite Croation came through for me again! Edo asked to purchase a spreadsheet from me today. I was trying to decide if this upgraded him to my favorite European, but I do have some relatives that wouldn't be too pleased. How about I upgrade him to my favorite non-related European! Hey Edo, wanna try for my favorite person on Earth? Got a million bucks? LOL. This latest sale brings my total to 55.24. I finally have more than half of what I had before. Man! I have to double again just so I can finally double the doubling that I was trying to do in the first place. I'll have a long lessons learned one on this one. Thanks Edo and good luck in your doubling!

My New Favorite Croation

After I sold my spreadsheet in the morning, I checked my paypal again to see if the first guy interested in my spreadsheet bought one too (unless he was the guy who bought one). Well, I did have an extra 8 bucks in my paypal, but not because of a spreadsheet. Edo from My Doubling Adventure donated $8 dollars to me (minus paypal fees of course). According to Google, that comes to 38.73 HRK for him. Hey, thanks man! I didn't actually expect anyone to ever donate, but you are helping my dreams come true! You're awesome! Everyone go check out Edo's blog and cheer him on to 12,800,000.00HRK, which as I understand it is approximately a Million British Pounds. Edo, you are without a doubt my favorite Croation! Now I'm up to $48.11 (I also found a penny today! What a good day!)

3rd Spreadsheet Sold!

All Right! I checked my paypal today and there was another spreadsheet that was purchased. It was a different e-mail address than the guy that said he was interested before so it could be someone new, but my blog says to e-mail me first. If this isn't the same guy then that might mean my Google ads are working! That would be awesome because I have had NO luck with my ads so far and they've cost me about 6 bucks. Not to mention the $70 e-book that ate up all my money. Now I'm up to 40.96. It's been quite a day because.... well.... check out my next post!

ISP Nightmare

I have been having trouble getting my webspace set up that comes with my ISP signup. I called back in October to have it set up. I guess you have to request the space so they don't have to have tons of wasted server space for people that have no intention of making a web page. So back in October (2006) they set it up and said it would take 2 days before it started working. After a week it still wasn't working so I called thier support line. The person tried changing my Access password, but forgot to change it on my side so I lost connection and had to call again just to get back where I was. Next time I tried calling they were having network problems, so the guy changed my password again and said it should work in a few days when their network problems were solved. Needless to say, it never worked. Finally today I decided I would bug them until it was working. The first time I called I got some guy who had that tone of voice that said I was an idiot. He said I shouldn't be ftp-ing through internet explorer and that I should use third party ftp software. He also said their support web page recommends different programs. I went to thier support page and found no information like he was talking about. I almost gave up there, but I decided to keep calling until they fixed it. The second person today was pretty good, although first she changed my e-mail password and made sure I could log in to my e-mail and tried to end the call there. Once she finally understood what I was trying to do she was able to escalate the issue, which apparently means someone who knows what the heck they are doing will eventually get around to fixing it. She at least admitted the problem was on her side. I hung up finally feeling good about it and was about to write this blog post when I noticed that I couldn't get on line. She had changed my Access password on her side without changing it on my side again. I had to call AGAIN to get them to fix it. FINALLY I am back on line and supposedly someone is going to fix it in the next few days. Whew! I guess I had to get that off my chest. Hopefully I can set up my web page for my excel spreadsheet. The whole reason I want it is so people can buy my spreadsheet through paypal without having to e-mail me. I'm going to have a beer.

More frustration

I finally got someone to sign up for the Take the Internet Back. You have to get at least one other person to sign up to become a real member. The problem is that it never showed up as a reference! Grrrr! Not sure if my friend used my affiliate link, but I'm checking on that. How frustrating. I STILL can't get the stupid ebay digital download to work despite many e-mails back and forth between paypal, ebay and myself. If anyone has already gone through this, PLEASE let me know how you fixed it. On a brighter note, someone has asked info on my spreadsheet. Hopefully that one will turn into a sale. Keep your fingers croseed.

Failed ebay and a slow VCR deal

Well,
I finally tried ebay-ing my spreadsheet. No luck. I ended up just trying to sell it as a CD with a note that people could save shipping fees if I e-mailed it. Now I have an e-mail from paypal telling me how to set up the digital download so I'm going to try it again like that. I had high hopes for this one and like many of my other ideas, they are getting dashed.

I also was working on a small deal with this VCR my friend had. It's an old one without a remote, but he said if I could sell it then we'd split the profits. I had a few bites, but one was only offering half of what I was asking (just $10... it's a crappy one after all). Well, he was offering $5, so I e-mailed one of the other ones. THEY never got back so i phoned the last person and agreed to meet in one week as they live out of town. Just 2 minutes after I set that up, the other person FINALLY calls me and I have to tell them it's sold. DOH! Oh well, at least I should be making $5 here.

A new revenue stream!

My neighbor has a jeep and keeps it in his one car garage. He found an AMAZING deal on a newer jeep and he asked if I would store it in my garage in exchange for snow shoveling all winter and $50 a month! Those of you in a snow covered region would probably do it for the snow shovelling alone and I would have too, but he offered $50 so I accepted. I debated with myself for a while as to whether this qualifies for the double-up experiment. Technically I probably would have done it anyways, so it wasn't actually something extra like it's supposed to be for the double-up process. I figure there was a 90% chance I would have done it anyways, but the double-up prospect pushed me to the 100 percentile. Therefore I figure that 10% of the money should go to double-up and 90% should go to my regular life. he paid me $10 for the last bit of December that he had his jeep in my garage, so that's a whopping $1 towards doubling and $5 per month after that until the spring. Hey, it's something! Actually, he's gotten off easy on the snow shovelling so far. He's only had to shovel it once so far. I guess it's like insurance. You don't WANT to get in a car accident, but if you do then you're covered.

Take the Internet Back

Well, looks like a bunch of other doublers are doing it so I might as well throw my hat in the ring. I signed up for Take the Internet Back, which is a pretty cool idea. Basically, instead of some internet site making all the money for advertising, this site pays its members to receive ads. In fact, you end up owning stock in the company as well! Check it out. The best part is it is totally FREE! It's free money!

Arrrgghhh!

Man! Every time I try to sell my spreadsheet on ebay, they say that my paypal account is not a Verified Premier account. BUT IT IS! They said that my problem was that my ebay e-mail and paypal e-mail did not match, but now they do and it still doesn't work. Sigh... Nobody knows the trouble I've seen.

New Paypal account

Ok, I have changed my paypal account to the onegreenpaperflip@hotmail.com e-mail address. I didn't want to use my regular one for this stuff anymore. This cost me 88 cents to tranfer it over which sucks, but it will solve my digital download problem with ebay without having to create another ebay account. The good news is that I found a penny last night so it's only 87 cents. Whoopie!
